HORSENOTES: A Comprehensive Tool to Track all of Your Horse Needs

What started as a basic web application called “Rendaivu” back in 2006 has transformed into a popular global app and online version with 40,000 registered users across the world, delivering an experience that “covers everything you need to track and manage your horses,” said founder and developer, Nancy Winfield. “The app, which is now free, used to be the only app in the barn management space, however we still are the only one that delivers the most features and reliability,” added Winfield.  After a riding accident that resulted in a concussion, Winfield, based in Ontario, Canada, finds this app invaluable because, “the accident affected my memory and this allows me to store all my notes in one location and not worry about what I might have forgotten.”

Easy Navigation with Advanced Functionality
Similar to shopping for a new car – you admire all the shiny features on the outside and become even more impressed when you look under the hood.  HorseNotes mirrors that experience when you download the app, delivering an easy interface with the main categories covering your horses, a calendar, journal, expenses and contacts.  Once you start exploring, the Horse Health page allows you to find and manage all of the key maintenance records with prescriptive visual icons and also integrates picture downloads for storing receipts and more on your smart phone.  “The most popular feature for our users is the Health category which is ideal for the horse owner looking for one central depository for their horse care records,” said Winfield.

A Breed Apart
The app is also designed to keep track of reproduction records for both mares and stallions.  There is an automatic calculator built in that will deliver your mares due dates - perfect for larger operations that have to manage multiple horses.  Breeding history, pregnancy checks, fertility information and more has never been easier to keep track of.  “The advanced tools and notifications, help keep your breeding program more data driven and worry free,” said Winfield.

In Development
HorseNotes has been working closely with local stables on an advanced version of the app that is currently in development to help give stables a better way to manage their business and horses.  “We like to spend time in the field asking users what their needs are, especially when looking to launch new capabilities,” stressed Winfield.  For example, the riding school manager feature is ideal for large barns that need a comprehensive approach to managing a lesson program, from calendaring, and assignments to horse care and training. It will also include features that help manage a large number of horses and clients, such as staff communication, shared medical alerts, scheduling of farrier, veterinarian, etc., so that stable operators and staff have a single resource for information on day-to-day activities.

“As a tech equestrian, you can’t live without this app because we owe it to our horses to practice ideal horsemanship, and prudent digital record keeping is part of modern horsemanship.”

Out and About
Winfield and her team are headed to WEF (Winter Equestrian Festival) the end of February for a month to promote the product and in the spring/summer season will look to support the local Canadian horse community by targeting A circuit shows to talk with users and potential users of the app.  The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices.
