EQUISURE: A Safe Ride Solution

As technology is changing the way we manage our horses it is also bringing a whole new level of safety and awareness thanks to wearable devices such as EquiSure™. The Tech Equestrian caught up with co-creator Catherine Chaventré who resides near the medieval town of Carcassonne in the South of France where history may be all around but the future is what Catherine is focused on.

Catherine got her start with horses as a young child and has ridden for 40 years, half of which as a professional. She is a qualified riding instructor and for 15 years has worked for top international show jumpers as a rider and as a groom in addition to breaking and competing young horses.

The Vision in Action
Catherine is co-founder of a company called IMINNOV SAS and along with her associate, Christophe Le Camus, who is a Computer Science Engineer they developed EquiSure - the first connected alert system for horse and rider. This safety product is a wearable that includes two devices: one is carried by the rider – on their helmet, the other one is carried by the horse – with its own attachment system (various options will be available).

The product includes two wearable devices - one for rider and one for the horse.

If a fall occurs an alert is activated (alerts can go out to up to 10 people) and has the ability to track rider and horse position along with detecting crash severity. The SIM card in the device connects to the nearest antenna regardless of the operator. The power of EquiSure is leveraging the geo-location of the incident to get help quickly and to contain or capture the horse. Additional ‘alert’ types can be set up by the rider in advance, which enables the ability to ask for help even if they are not in danger. The user can also cancel an alert in case it is a false alarm. For those who are not with the rider, such as a trainer or family and friends, ride tracking is also available with this product for peace of mind.

EquiSure works independently from your smartphone, so if you forget it at the barn you are still protected (as long as the devices are switched on).

Pre-Launch and Accolades
EquiSure has been available on presales since November 2017 and can be purchased worldwide, including in the US. EquiSure was selected due to its innovation by CES (Consumer Electronics Show) Las Vegas 2018 (the largest in the world) and was then presented at EUREKA PARK where it was received with a lot of interest. The official product launch is planned for the beginning of November 2018, with worldwide availability.

This product is designed for every rider who can benefit from using EquiSure technology and serves for anyone who rides alone either on an occasional basis or routinely. It is a great device to bring back confidence to those who have had a scare during their outings but want to give it another try.

Even professionals can use this product given the unpredictability of horseback riding. EquiSure is also the ideal tool for the barn manager to help them manage the professional risks of owning and training horses. For example, by recommending the use of or renting out EquiSure to their boarders, they will be aware of what is happening in the event of an accident enabling them to assist the injured rider much quicker as well as tracking the horse if they escape. Using this product could help reduce the risk of being sued in case of an accident.

Mapping a Clear Road to Safety Innovation
EquiSure is a product that is designed to evolve on a regular basis. The devices have been designed to last so that the rider can benefit from future updates. The app that comes with it offers unique features and functionalities, for example it will let you see the battery level of each device or the level of credit on your SIM card, and so much more. There are many plans to develop more functionalities including updated versions as part of the product roadmap. EquiSure is the very first alert system designed exclusively for horse riders considering all the constraints of equestrianism, as it uses only modern technologies. There is no physical link to attach you to your saddle or anything else.

EquiSure has a worldwide patent pending.

Future Thoughts
According to Catherine, in Europe, more and more riders look at new devices to help them improve their riding, monitor the wellbeing of their horse, and how they can ride safely. The masses are still a bit shy when it comes to using such devices on a large scale.

The horse-riding community is a very slow to adopt community, where traditions are deeply rooted. It will take some time before technology is found in every barn. However, Catherine does believe that with the younger generation technology will eventually find its place. When it comes to safety and horse care, the sooner the better.

EquiSure is looking to expand in the US and that includes seeking out new business partners, ambassadors, resellers, and distributors.
