One of the best ways to master horsemanship is to have the mindset of #neverstoplearning and a great way to act on that is to participate in a clinic. Clinics or riding workshops give you access to top professionals and allow you the opportunity to learn and interact with your peers in a highly informative riding session – sounds great, but is it easy to organize and participate? The hard part for organizers is managing registrations, payments, and promotions and for riders, they want an easy to search, view, and register portal. Luckily, there is a company called Event Clinics, based out of the Georgetown Venture Lab, a feature of the McDonough School of Business in Washington D.C., that handles the whole process. The Tech Equestrian spoke with Director of Outreach, Natasha Sprengers-Levine to get an inside look at the portal and how technology is making it easier.

An Automated Solution for the Organizer
Launched in 2016, the e-commerce mobile-friendly platform was designed to be easy for the organizer to post, promote, and feature upcoming activities in a timesaving way, which in turn helps boost revenue. Organizers simply sign up for free as an Event Clinics Member and will have access to ECInstantPay™ the proprietary financial processing software that enables riders to pay organizers online with a credit card, without the need for organizers to have a merchant account. “Our proprietary software guarantees secure payments and doesn’t include seller fees,” pointed out Sprengers-Levine. Event Clinics work exclusively with PayPal® so they can accommodate international payments and make sure the transactions are safe. The website lists all the tools needed to monitor entries 24/7 including spreadsheets that can easily be downloaded and printed. “There are plenty of on boarding tips to help with the process and also marketing and social media tools to aid in promotions,” said Sprengers-Levine.

Rider Satisfaction
Riders simply sign up for a free account, view the calendar of clinics, and select the one they are interested in. They pay a $2.99 online transaction fee and the rest of the clinic fee goes directly to the organizer. “We encourage riders to become members, so the next time they register for a clinic, all the information is there.”

Successful Clinics and What’s Next?
“We’ve successfully promoted clinics for George Morris, McLain Ward, Will Simpson, Laura Graves, David O’Connor and Chris Kappler, to name a few,” said Sprengers-Levine. “We feature events across all disciplines and are recognized by many organizations including USEA,” she added. While many clinics are concentrated on the East Coast, the calendar also features clinics nationwide and internationally.

“We attract trainers and work closely with groups, large facilities, pony clubs and the clinicians themselves to use Event Clinics.” The goal is to make everyone’s life easier and to register more riders. “Event Clinics plan is to move towards a subscription model in 6-9 months,” said Sprengers-Levine. “We’d like to also incorporate scoring and scheduling to round out the features of the program.” In addition, the website features a blog and a frequently asked questions (FAQs) to scan and get your questions answered quickly.
