EQUILAB: A Top Tool to Elevate Your Training

Equilab is a Sweden based company founded in Gothenburg, but today boasts almost half of its team from other countries. “Our company is setting the pace on becoming an innovative solution for riders from all around the world,” said Johanna Wingstrand, Marketing Coordinator at Equilab. The company was created from the idea that something was missing from the equestrian world from a data and technical aspect. “One of our co-founders has a background in triathlons but after an injury he became involved with equestrian sport.” Having been exposed to all kinds of technical measuring tools when training for triathlons he noticed that this was not available for equestrians and the idea for Equilab came to life.

Launching a World-Class Training App

The Equilab app was launched in 2016. “It’s made for riders of all levels – from competition to leisure riders and everything in between,” said Johanna. With currently over 1 million users worldwide, the app has many features including tracking your ride, planning your daily activities, the ability to join an equestrian community, safety tracking, stable chat and more. “In the spring we launched a new feature called safety tracking and that’s one of our most popular features today,” shared Johanna. This feature allows the rider to enter a safety contact in the app that gets notified when the rider starts using the app and when the training is completed. “It’s a safety check in the palm of your hand and is especially useful if a rider rides alone, allowing friends and family to easily know when the rider got back home safely.”

Equestrians Are The Most Dedicated Athletes
“At Equilab we have always believed that equestrians are the world’s most dedicated athletes and that they deserve top-level solutions to their problems,” said Johanna and added, “Our goal is to make stable life easier and to make it possible for riders to train in a more sustainable way.” Equilab stands behind that promise by working with and supporting professional equestrians from a range of disciplines. “We are very proud to have Patrik Kittel, Sweden’s most successful dressage rider and several times Olympic participants, as brand ambassadors for Equilab,” she explained. They recently signed a contract with a new ambassador, and will be sharing that shortly on social media.

Always Enhancing
There are several new exciting features coming up, including the recently launched new feature called Audio Stats. “This feature makes it possible for the rider to get information and statistics in the headphones while riding in real-time.” The stats include time you have ridden, the duration of the ride and the distribution of gaits. “It’s a very helpful tool that makes it easier for the rider to follow the set training goals,” stated Johanna.

Goal-Setting Made Easy
“Being an equestrian myself,” said Johanna, “I can speak from my own experience. The app provides so much information about the training and helps you ride in a sustainable way.” Not only does the app make it easier to set goals and follow them but it also provides the rider with a deeper understanding for what is happening during the training. This information will build a profile and find patterns in the trainings and alert you to problems that you might not have been aware of. “For example, I realized, after using the app for a while, that I rode a lot more on the right rein,” shared Johanna.

Tech Advancements
“There’s a lot happening within the equestrian sport right now,” said Johanna. “You see many new technical solutions to different problems and I think the sport is moving more and more in that direction. "Thanks to technology, the equine world will become even more advanced, and tech will become a bigger part of being an equestrian.”

Community Based
With some horse shows on hold, Equilab has mainly been on social media promoting their solution. “However, being an equestrian means being part of a community. Therefore, we are always looking to our users and encouraging them to share what they want us to focus on next,” said Johanna. “All our best ideas and innovations have always started with riders giving us new insights. This information fuels the development of the app as well as in the marketing.” The Equilab app is made for equestrians, and they are excited to share this tech journey with them to make them better, more informed riders.
